Nepal has been a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) since February 5, 2007. Four years after, Nepal passed the Tobacco Control and Regulation Act 2011, a primary law governing tobacco control. Good progress in tobacco control measures was made: for example, Nepal is known for having the largest graphic health warning covering 90% of surface area. Despite this, tobacco industry interference continues to be a challenge in implementing these policies. A total of 11 lawsuits were filed by the industry and its allies against the Nepalese government’s move to strictly enforce Tobacco Control and Regulation Law 2011.
